As one of many who profess to be a Christian, we all share a common role.
Each of us is to help fulfill the Great Commission.
Coming to faith in Jesus Christ is the most important thing that has happened to us in our entire life.
We cannot keep this relationship to just ourselves.
How can we fail to point others to what has been offered by our Creator God with all the benefits that come to one when they receive Christ as Savior and Lord?
We should be bold in presenting the gospel to any and everyone!
Our mindset should be always – in season and out –
- to take a person to the point of commitment to Christ
- and leave the results to God.
But what if you don’t have a way to follow up someone who receives Christ?
- Yes, we are to follow up someone who receives Christ if possible.
- If not, God uses us sometimes as “obstetricians”, and we trust God to provide a “pediatrician” to provide the growth.
In other words, we water the seed and fertilize if we can.
But we don’t dig it up to see if it’s growing.
Don’t fail to share Christ just because you don’t have a long-term relationship.
Where do we do this?
I firmly believe that the ground between our feet is the mission field that we’ve been given to reach – it is our “sphere of influence.”
As we speak with people in the course of everyday life, we need to seek ways to change the conversations with others into spiritual things – the gospel.
Our mindset for evangelism should be like we were taught in the military:
- If it moves — salute it.
- If it doesn’t move – paint it.
We — as Christian “warriors” — should have the same attitude about our faith:
If it moves – share with it.
The North Star once guided mariners.
Our North Star as a follower of Christ is the Great Commission.
So regardless of what a Christian has as a spiritual gift or what we are called to do in the body –
- Teach
- Preach
- Sing in the choir,
- Go to school, or
- Work in a business
…whoever enters our “sphere of influence” – SHARE WITH THEM.
If our Christian life is limited to absorbing the Word but not sharing it with the people around us — we are just “sitting, soaking, and souring.”
Our goal should be that when we meet anyone – we should be praying and planning how to share Jesus Christ with them.
British missionary, C.T. Studd, once said that he “…wanted to run a rescue shop one yard from hell.”
This should be our heart as well.
Let me share a few simple questions that you can use to turn a conversation to Christ.
- “Have you ever invited Jesus Christ to come into your life?“
Most answer yes. If not, go into the gospel with them - “If you died right now, would you know for certain you would have eternal life?“
Most say, “I hope so.” Then go over the gospel. - “When you get to heaven how many sins will you have to pay for?“
Most answer, “A lot.” Then go over the gospel until they know their sins can be paid for by Jesus Christ.
Why do we as Christians most often fail to share our faith?
- It’s most frequently – the FEAR of the SNEER of the PEER!
…but our concern for our reputation should be honoring God – not popularity with people.
So, what is the most important thing that has ever happened in your life?
For me it is discovering the truth and reality of who Jesus is and what He offers as a personal relationship that forgave my sin and promised eternal life.
What is the most important thing that you could ever do for another person?
Point them to the greatest thing that could ever happen in their life as well.
