The Great Commandment …

I read today in Matthew 22:37-40.

“… You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.
“This is the great and first commandment.
“And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
“On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”

This is the response Jesus gave to the question, “Which is the great commandment in the Law?” It all is built upon love of God. This is not a flippant admiration. It is love with all our heart, soul, and mind.

Our love and fear of God is to be the dominant thing in our life.

Our love of God will naturally spill over into love and concern for other people. We are to love and be concerned for others on this same level that we love and are concerned for ourselves.

This includes concern for their well-being in this life — but also concern for their eternal destiny.

It means we are to love them as fellow members of the human race, created in the image of our Creator God.  But even further, we must be deeply concerned that they will find faith in Christ and have a relationship with Him.

How can we as believers keep the message of the Christian Gospel to ourselves when others so desperately need to hear it.  If we really love someone, we certainly don’t want them to face the consequences of rejecting God’s offer of forgiveness of our sin.

May we all love God like this and have this level of love and concern for others.

That’s my Trumpet Blast for today.

Would you like some “secret counsel?”

I was reading today in Psalm 25:14 where it says :

“The friendship of the LORD is for those who fear him, and He makes known to them His covenant.”

I found an interesting footnote regarding this verse in my ESV Bible.  It says that the word “friendship” in this verse can also translated “secret counsel.”

It seems that God reveals his “secret counsel” to those who fear God, which would be understanding of reality that is beyond what is commonly held.  We are told in Proverbs that  “Fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.”

Unfortunately, there are far too many people who reject and rebel against our Creator .  Consequently, they will never be able to comprehend, know, and understand His friendship or secret counsel.  They reject even the truth that has been given broadly to all who live.

These people remain in a state of their false beliefs and assumptions that leads them away from truth and reality. They believe the lies of the devil and the false narratives of man-focused ideologies and philosophies that have their foundation in denying God and the truth that he has revealed to mankind in Scripture.

I desire to know truth.

I want to understand more fully the covenant that God has made with mankind.

I want to be in God’s friendship and know his secret counsel that will guide me to understand  how I could best honor Him.  It is my hope that these are your desires as well.

That’s my trumpet blast for today.

….do not refuse Him who is speaking!

I was reading in Hebrews 12:25 where it said,

“See to it that you do not refuse Him who is speaking. For if those did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, much less shall we escape who turn away from Him who warns from heaven.”

Think about that and read it again.

“See to it that you do not refuse Him who is speaking. For if those did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, much less shall we escape who turn away from Him who warns from heaven.”

God offers to us a relationship with Himself that saves us, forgives our sin, and allows us to be with Him in heaven forever.

Unfortunately, some reject His offer of a relationship.

They may hear about God’s offer from people they know on Earth.  They may reject the people who share it.  They may be pastors, evangelists, or just people who they know who believe in and follow Christ.  Rejecting people is not the issue, it is rejecting God.

It is God Himself who created everything that exists and we are told that He did it by speaking.  The passage tells us that it is His voice that speaks to us from heaven — the same voice that created everything.  It is the Holy Spirit of God that draws us to faith in Christ through His grace.

If we reject Him who warns us, understand there is no escape through any false religion or man-focused philosophy or ideology. We are told that our hope is in Christ alone.

Those who are Christ followers have the privilege and responsibility to warn others of this danger of rejecting God.  It doesn’t matter if we are rejected.  It is the rejection of God Himself that is the danger. And this is everyone’s eternal choice.

May any who read this choose wisely!

That my Trumpet Blast for today.

Speak whether they listen or not…

Today several verses really jumped out at me…

“But you shall speak My words to them whether they listen or not, for they are rebellious.”  Ezekiel 2: 7

“And he said to me, “Son of man, feed your stomach, and fill your body with this scroll which I am giving you.” Then I ate it, and it was sweet as honey in my mouth.” Ezekiel 3: 3

“Moreover, He said to me, “Son of man, take into your heart all My words which I shall speak to you, and listen closely.”  Ezekiel 3: 10

These are the words that God spoke to Ezekiel in a vision. He is instructed to speak the message that God gives him to the people.  Ezekiel is told to speak what God gives him to say boldly – regardless of whether the people listen or not.

Today we have God’s word through the Bible and He speaks to us as we read it.

God gives this revealed truth to us and we are to fill our body with these words from God. For believers the word of God will be sweet as we consume it.

We are not to be flippant and indifferent about what God gives us in scripture.  We are to take it into our heart, consuming His words, and we are to listen closely.

Spending time in God’s word– the Bible– will open our heart to truth that radically changes us. Listen closely!

But we are not to just keep this truth from God to ourselves. It is to be shared with others around us who need to hear.  That’s why I share these “Trumpet Blasts.” Some who hear will be drawn to our Creator; but we know that it will come across as foolishness to those who rebel and reject God.

It is not my responsibility to persuade, only to proclaim the message of God to those around me. This is done in the power of the Holy Spirit of God that comes and lives within all Christ followers. I seek to be obedient and share what God shows me in His word and leave the response of others up to them and to God.

I desire to be obedient and point others to the reality of who Jesus Christ really is.  Hope you will, too.

That’s my Trumpet Blast for today.

how to stop being a stumbling block…

Was just reading this —

“And the Lord’s bond servant must not be quarrelsome, but be kind to all, able to teach, patient when wronged, with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition, if perhaps God may grant them repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth, and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, having been held captive by him to do his will.”    2 Timothy 2:24-26.

I am a bondservant. I have come to be a willing servant to the Creator God of the universe.  He has given me these instructions about how I am to live my life before others:

  • not quarrelsome
  • kind to all
  • able to teach
  • patient when wronged
  • gently correcting those who are opposed to the truth of the gospel.

I know I have failed to live up this these in so many ways, but I desire to become more like Christ.  I sincerely hope my failure won’t be a stumbling block to anyone who would consider the claims of Jesus about Himself.

Why? Because God may grant these people repentance and faith, leading to the knowledge of the truth. Truth is certainly a good thing to discern in the midst of all the false narratives in our culture today.

We’re told that they may “come to their senses.”  When they do they are able to escape the snare of the devil that has misled so many around the world. Until we have Christ, we are held captive by the devil himself — the enemy of all who live.

Those who have not yet put their faith in Christ alone are continually tricked into doing Satan’s will.  They are misled into believing false, man-focused ideologies and philosophies until they are set free by faith in Christ.

It is my hope that many may be drawn to faith in Christ and that all of us who follow Christ may be usable to point others in that direction, which is the only way to God.

That’s my trumpet blast for today.

I confess! … and YOU are a witness to it.

I was reading today in first Timothy Chapter 6. There were two verses that really stood out to me. –verses 7 and 12.

Verse7 is, “For we have brought nothing into the world, so we cannot take anything out of it either.”

Verse 12 says, “Fight the good fight of faith., take hold of the eternal life to which you were called, and you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.”

This tells me that the material things of the world are irrelevant when considered in the perspective of eternity. We brought nothing with us when we were born into this world. And we will take nothing material out of it.

The well-being of our soul, in light of the reality of eternity, should be what we truly focus upon.

Our life is caught-up in a spiritual battle and we are told to fight the good fight” and “take hold of the eternal life to which we are called.”

If we have Christ as Lord of our life, we’re to proclaim our faith to others.  Why? So they may discover, too, what we have found through a relationship with God in the person of Jesus.

I confess — without apology — that I am a follower of Jesus Christ. You are now a witness to my confession.

It is my hope that there will be a great many who are drawn to faith in Christ, which is through the work of the Holy Spirit.

I just hope to be usable — to point people to this profound truth about what God offers through Christ.  This is the reality that changes everything in life forever.

That’s my trumpet blast for today.

The Warning Trumpet

Let me share something has been really pressing on me.  I sense the need to “sound the warning trumpet” in the spirit of Ezekiel 33.  This passage of scripture is where God gives the command to watch and warn people of approaching danger.

Let me show you these verses.

The word of the LORD came to me:

“Son of man, speak to your people and say to them, “If I bring the sword upon a land, and the people of the land take a man from among them, and make him their watchmen, and if he sees the sword coming upon the land and blows the trumpet and warns the people, then if anyone who hears the sound of the trumpet does not take warning, and the sword comes and takes him away, his blood shall be upon his own head. He heard the sound of the trumpet and did not take warning; his blood shall be upon himself. But if he had taken warning, he would have saved his life.  But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet, so that the people are not warned, and the sword comes and takes any one of them, that person is taken away in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at the watchman’s hand.

Ezekiel 33: 1-6 ESV

In reading this I am impressed that when I see danger approaching — I must sound the Warning Trumpet.

As a follower of Christ I am not to keep silent.  It is our responsibility to proclaim truth to others around us in the midst of all the false messages in our culture today and warn people of the false narratives they face.

I recognize my responsibility to warn people of two dangers.

First, the danger of rejecting and not receiving Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

Why is this a danger?  Because rejection of what God offers people will result not only in loss of meaning, purpose, and peace in our present life on earth, but also the loss one will experience who rejects God through the horrible existence of eternal separation and torment that awaits in a literal place called Hell.  I don’t want that for anyone.

I hope to point people to the truth and reality of who Jesus is and what He offers.  I know that people will not be moved through my ability or lack of ability to convince anyone of this truth.  I only share what I have discovered personally and leave it to God to draw and open the understanding of those who will come.  That is my role – to share and leave the results to Him.  Our Creator will draw some to Himself and give them the faith to believe.

As I read this passage, I realize I must be obedient and do what God is placing on my heart to do.  He is the Sovereign God and Creator of all that exists.

My life has been radically changed by Jesus and I just want others to discover this, too.  Remember what Jesus said of Himself in John 14:6.  He tells us, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

The second danger about which I need to sound the “warning trumpet” lies within the promotion of certain ideologies that work to mislead our nation and the entire world.

So many people are being misled by some “man-focused” ideologies that reject God with false narratives.  These include:

  • Humanism,
  • Progressivism,
  • Socialism, and
  • Marxism.

Why are these such a great danger?  Because these ideologies reject God and promote a lie that man is not sinful but but suffers because of things outside of himself.  If those external issues were removed society would be corrected and mankind would live in harmony together.  An ideal society could be created and man can be perfected through his own efforts

These ideologies deny the sin problem shared by all mankind and instead point to injustices outside of man to try to fix.  They claim man’s problem is in a system, or an inequality in wealth, education, skin color, or some power structure.   If that external problem could be fixed, the world would have good people living in a perfected Utopian society.

This denial of man’s basic nature is open confrontation with God’s message to mankind.  These are man-focused ideologies that have people look to big government as their provider rather than to our Creator.

These ideologies do not lead people to truth and fear of the Lord but are ideologies built on false assumptions that manipulate people toward belief systems that are flawed all the way down to their very foundation.

A belief system built on these false assumptions cannot lead anyone to truth no matter how strong their convictions.

Since God created everything that exists, doesn’t it make sense that He knows better than anyone how things work and why. That means He will always be the smartest person in the room. He offers us wisdom and discernment if we ask and seek it through Him.  Shouldn’t we look at what the Creator Himself has revealed to be true rather than be misled by atheist philosophers and pursue their proposed solutions?

To build our belief system on the ideologies that are constructed on a foundation of opinions of people who have rejected God and comprehend only men’s limited perception of reality will only lead to misunderstanding of  the true problems of mankind.  If we lack a correct understanding of the real problem, we will always pursue wrong solutions.

That is the fatal flaw of these man-focused ideologies that are being promoted in our culture today.

Reality is —

  • God is the issue.
  • God is the answer.
  • God offers the only true solution to the problems that the world faces.

If we reject our Creator God and the solutions He offers, we will never find the right answers.

The “…fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.” (Proverbs 1: 7).

Desiring to be obedient to sound the Warning Trumpet is also why I am working with an organization — Assumptions Institute — that equips Christ followers to discern truth and reality for themselves so they can flourish in their faith and engage the culture to influence others for Christ.

How anyone responds to these “trumpet blasts” is not my responsibility — everyone must choose their own course of action.  They may act or choose to ignore.

Regardless of how these “trumpet blasts” may be received, I must be obedient and sound the trumpet. It is my hope that some people will take the warning, place their faith in Jesus Christ, discern what is real and true among the messages in our culture, and save their life.

That’s my “trumpet blast” for today.

God is not mocked.

I was reading today…

“Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap.

“For the one who sows to his own flesh shall from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit shall from the Spirit reap eternal life.”          Galatians 6:7-8

This is a big statement — “God is not mocked.”

What we plant in our daily endeavors is what we nurture and pursue.  Whatever is that focus is what will grow and be produced in our life.

If our focus is on the temporary things of this world — we will grow only a crop of temporal materialistic produce.  It may appear to give pleasure for a brief time, but it is shallow and insignificant in comparison to the reality that God tells us will last forever.

But if we give our Creator His rightful place in our life through receiving Jesus Christ by faith, the Holy Spirit will be at work to reap fruit that matters and remains —  that includes eternal Life.

We should choose widely what we seek to pursue.
Why?  Because it is a matter of life and death — not just for the short term. — but forever.

I am praying that God will open the eyes and the hearts of those who need to see and hear truth.

Can’t grow fruit on your own

I read today…

“But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law.”   Galatians 5:22 NAS

This is the fruit that the Holy Spirit grows and the life of the one who has Christ as Lord and Savior. We become a new creation — a whole new person changed from the inside out. The God of Creation makes us into the person He wants us to become. Through His work in us we become more and more like Jesus, who lived a life without sin.

I can’t do this through my own efforts. I fail miserably.

This is radical change brought about by God and it is beyond the ability of any person to do it on their own. It’s only possible when someone has been born again by the proactive power of God in the Person of the Holy Spirit.

This change is through faith in Christ — change is NOT the means of attaining right standing with God by cleaning up our life on our own.

This radically changed life is the offer to us from God Himself.  It is a free gift– we must simply receive the solution Jesus has offered.

That’s my Trumpet blast for the day.

Here’s where I put my faith…

I was reading today —

“…nevertheless, knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the Law but through faith in Christ Jesus, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we may be justified by faith in Christ, and not by the works of the Law; since by the works of the Law shall no flesh be justified.”                                                         Galatians 2:16 NAS

Here is the profound truth of all eternity. This is the one issue that every person must decide and stand upon:

Who is this Jesus?

He is God who took on human form and walked among us. He did what no ordinary person could do and lived a life without sin, and then gave Himself as a sacrifice that paid the penalty of death for me.

No person can be justified by our own efforts. The solution is that Jesus did it for me.

I could never do it on my own so I have placed my faith in this One person — Jesus the Christ.

He is my Lord and Savior. He is my only hope.

It is my strongest desire for others to find and know what I have come to realize.  Have you put your faith in Him?
